Anders Althin Scholarship

You will receive a personal research grant from a total fund of 100,000 SEK (about 8,800 EUR) for 2026. The Foundation may award the entire amount to a single researcher or divide it amongst several researchers. You may use the money for research work, pilot studies for research projects and analyses. Printing or translation costs will not be covered. The grant is provided by the Anders Althin Foundation, which has been supporting archaeological research since 1987 in memory of the archaeologist Carl-Axel Althin.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are an individual researcher. Organisations, institutions and companies are not eligible to apply.
• Field: Your field of work is archaeology, preferably prehistory or medieval archaeology.
• Research region: Projects focusing on Skåne, Halland and Blekinge – the historic provinces in southern Sweden – are given priority. The focus is on what you are studying, not on where you live or work.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• What you submit: A CV highlighting the experience relevant to your project, along with a clear project plan.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted by email to the Foundation. Please attach a project description of no more than 3 A4 pages (objectives, background, research questions, methods, expected results, work plan and budget) as well as your CV. You can apply from 19 January to 16 March 2026. The application deadline is 16 March 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. It is aimed at individual archaeologists whose projects relate to southern Sweden, meaning that the target group is small and competition is low. If your project clearly falls within the field of prehistoric or medieval archaeology in Skåne, Halland or Blekinge, and you submit a well-reasoned plan and a sound budget, your chances are good. As the entire grant amount may be awarded to a single applicant, a focused and compelling application is of the utmost importance.
