About this scholarship

The Fröbergska Foundation scholarship

You will receive a monthly grant to cover your living costs whilst you are studying at a university or university college (högskola) in Sweden. The amount of the grant is not published. You can receive this support until, at the latest, the semester in which you turn 28 years old. The money comes from a foundation in Kalmar, which was established in the 19 century to help students from the Kalmar region who need financial support.

Who can apply

  • Study level: You have finished gymnasium (upper secondary school) and study at a university or university college.
  • Study progress: You have earned at least 15 credits (poäng) in your last semester. Alternatively, you may submit a certificate confirming that you have been studying at a normal pace and have passed your examinations.
  • Where you are from: You were born in, or lived for at least 5 years during compulsory school in, one of these parishes: Kalmar, Kläckeberga, Dörby, Hossmo, Ljungby, S:t Sigfrid, Åby or Förlösa.
  • Age: When you first apply, you must not be older than 25. You can retain the scholarship until the semester in which you turn 28.
  • Income (if you live on your own and are over 18): Your own income is no more than 117,600 SEK (year 2025).
  • Income (if you are under 18 or live with your parents): Your parents’ combined income, before the basic allowance, is no more than 613,900 SEK (income year 2023).
  • Field of study: Any topic is fine.

How to apply

Send the completed official form with all required documents by post, so it arrives by 23 September. Make sure you include your tax certificate, transcript, population register certificate and study certificate. Incomplete or late applications are rejected.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is awarded to only a very small number of applicants. You must come from one of the eight specifically named municipalities in the Kalmar area, meet the specified age limits and not exceed the income thresholds – which is why very few people apply for it. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit your complete application documents by the deadline, your chances are good.
