About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a one-off grant for a study programme or a research placement abroad in the field of commerce, particularly wholesale and retail. The amount depends on your level of study: 30,000 SEK (about 2,680 EUR) at Master’s level and 20,000 SEK (about 1,790 EUR) at Bachelor’s level. The money is intended to fund a study period at a foreign higher education institution comparable to the Faculty of Economics, Law and Commerce in Gothenburg, or to fund research work that you carry out abroad as part of your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis. The grant is provided by the Association for the Promotion of Commercial Professions, which is affiliated with the University of Gothenburg. A single grant may be divided amongst several applicants, and you may only receive it once.

Who can apply

  • University: You study at, or recently graduated from, the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg or from Chalmers.
  • Level: You are at Bachelor’s (undergraduate) or Master’s level.
  • Where you go: You are studying or writing your dissertation abroad.
  • Field: Your degree subject or thesis topic is related to commerce, particularly wholesale or retail.
  • Timing: You must submit your application before you leave. The scholarship is not awarded for studies or theses that have already been completed.
  • Grades: Please enclose a copy of your academic transcript. Selection will be based on your academic performance.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Please complete the application form and email it, together with your certificate, to the association’s contact person. There are two application rounds per year: apply by 28 February (funding to be paid out in May) or by 30 September (funding to be paid out in November). Only successful applicants will be notified.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You must be from one of the two Gothenburg-based institutions, be going abroad and be working on a trade-related topic, which means that only a few people meet the criteria. The lists of recent scholarship recipients show that several people are awarded funding in each round, which improves your chances. If you clearly meet the ‘trade’ focus and can demonstrate convincing results, your prospects are good.
