What you get

You will receive a lump sum of one-time payment of about 450 EUR, which is a one-off payment and is not paid monthly. The exact amount varies each year, as the total sum is divided amongst all those selected. The money comes from the Adlerbert Foundations, a Swedish endowment fund established in 1945. The University of Gothenburg distributes it to its international students. If you have a bank account in Europe, you will receive the payment in euros; outside the EU, it will be in US dollars.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are studying at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, whatever your level: Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Who you are: You are an international visiting student, not a Swedish citizen, and plan to return to your home country after completing your studies or work placement. This includes free-movers, exchange students and visiting researchers.
• Length of study: You must study for at least three months during the funding year (from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027).
• No Swedish student aid: You will not receive any grants or loans from the CSN, the Swedish government agency responsible for student finance.
• No permanent residence: You do not hold a permanent residence permit for Sweden. A student visa is sufficient, and EU citizenship does not count as permanent residence in this context.
• First time only: You have not yet received this scholarship.
• Enrolment timing: You do not need to be enrolled at the time of application. If you were studying during the autumn semester, you can still apply in January.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the University’s scholarship application system between 11 January and 12 February 2027. You only need to complete the form; a CV or letter of motivation is not required. Late applications will not be considered. All applicants will be notified of the result by email in mid-April.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed exclusively at international students at a specific university who will subsequently leave Sweden. Consequently, the target group is small and the application process involves minimal effort. The amount is modest and is divided amongst all successful applicants, meaning competition is less intense than for large national scholarships. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria for visiting students and apply within the short application window, your chances are good.
