Eksta Energy Scholarship in memory of Ivar Franzén

You receive a one-off cash prize of up to 30,000 SEK (about 2,650 EUR) for a strong degree thesis on sustainable buildings. The prize is personal and tax-free under Swedish rules. It is meant to help you keep working in energy-efficient construction. Eksta Bostads AB gives it each year. This is the municipal housing company of the city of Kungsbacka, and the award honours its former chairman Ivar Franzén. Several theses share the pot each year: in 2025 three theses split 65,000 SEK, in 2024 three theses split 55,000 SEK. If you win, you present your work at Eksta's energy seminar in late November or early December.

Who can apply

• Your university: You study on an engineering, technical or architecture programme at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg or the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) at Lund University.
• Your degree stage: You finished your degree thesis (examensarbete, the final project for your degree) in the 2025/26 academic year, and your supervisor approved it.
• Your topic: Your thesis is about resource-efficient, sustainable buildings. It looks at all or part of a building's life cycle, from construction through use to demolition. Your proposed efficiency measures must not worsen how the building works or its indoor climate.
• What the jury weighs: The structure, method, execution and clear writing of your thesis, plus whether it can be applied in practice soon and makes economic sense.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you study at one of the two named universities.

How to apply

You apply by email to Eksta with the subject 'Eksta Energistipendium'. Include the application form, your supervisor's confirmation that the thesis is approved, an abstract as a PDF and the full thesis as a PDF. The deadline is 30 June 2026, and winners are told in November 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. Only theses from two specific universities, on one specific topic, finished in one academic year, qualify, so the field is small. If your thesis genuinely fits the sustainable-buildings theme and shows practical, economically sensible results, your prospects are good. The fact that several theses are funded each year also helps your odds.
