Erasmus+ ICM scholarship at Uppsala University

You get 700 EUR per month for a study exchange abroad. On top you get a one-off travel grant that depends on your destination: from 395 EUR for Albania or Georgia, up to 580 EUR for Morocco, 1,188 EUR for Ghana, Kazakhstan or South Africa, and 1,735 EUR for Brazil or Colombia. The grant helps with the extra costs of living abroad and may not cover everything. The exact figure moves with the exchange rate when it is paid. You can be funded for up to 360 days at each study level (bachelor, master, doctorate), and each exchange must last at least 60 days. Uppsala University pays the scholarship from Erasmus+ funds.

You can also apply for extra inclusion funding on top if you have a disability, a health problem, or face social, economic, cultural, language or geographic barriers. The number of these top-ups is limited.

Who can apply

• Exchange place first: You have an exchange spot at one of Uppsala's Erasmus+ ICM partner universities, either through your department or faculty or through the central agreements. Partners are in Albania, Brazil, Colombia, Georgia, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Morocco and South Africa.
• Enrolment: You are a registered full-time student at Uppsala University and plan to finish your degree there.
• Credits: You have at least 60 ECTS credits by the time you leave. Some departments require more.
• No double EU funding: You are not getting another EU-funded scholarship for the same period.
• Field and level: All subjects are open, and you can be a bachelor, master or doctoral student.
• Residence permit holders: If you study in Sweden on a residence permit, check with the Migration Agency that studying abroad will not affect your status.

How to apply

First apply for an exchange place at one of the ICM partner universities. Once you have accepted a place, Uppsala's office contacts you with instructions to apply for the scholarship through the MoveON system (the online portal for exchange applications). The deadline is 1-31 May for exchanges starting in autumn, and 1-30 November for exchanges starting in spring.

How realistic are your chances?

The real hurdle is winning the exchange place, not the scholarship itself. If you have already secured a spot at one of these partner universities and meet the credit requirement, funding follows. The programme covers only a fixed set of partners in eight countries, so the eligible group is naturally limited. A well-matched student who lands the exchange has good prospects.
