Henrik E Ahrenberg travel scholarship (University of Gothenburg)

You get a one-off travel grant of up to 15,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR) to study elsewhere in the Nordic region. That can mean a Nordic university outside Gothenburg, or a Nordic archive, library, museum or similar institution. You get a single payment, not a monthly stipend (a regular study allowance). You must use the money within one year of the decision, and pay back anything you do not spend. The foundation is run through the University of Gothenburg for its own students.

Who can apply

• University: You study at the University of Gothenburg, in a department of its "philosophical faculty" area. This covers the humanities, natural science and technology (except IT departments), the School of Business, several social-science departments (psychology, sociology, political science, global studies) and educational science in pedagogy (but not teacher-training programmes).
• Level: You are a bachelor's, master's or doctoral student.
• Study record: When you apply, you have studied at least two semesters and earned at least 60 ECTS credits at one of these departments.
• Currently active: You are studying during the year the scholarship is awarded, at least 30 credits over that year (half-time or full-time).
• First time: You have not received this scholarship at your current level before.
• Where you go: Your trip stays within the Nordic region.

How to apply

You apply through the University of Gothenburg's online scholarship system and confirm with a Swedish BankID. The deadline for the current round is 21 September 2026. A joint donation board of the philosophical faculties decides, and its decision is final. Doctoral applicants are ranked by how far they have progressed in their doctorate, with a draw if two are tied.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly. You must study at a specific set of Gothenburg departments, already have 60 credits, be actively enrolled, and travel within the Nordic region. That keeps the eligible group small compared with open scholarships. If you clearly meet these conditions, especially as a well-advanced doctoral student, your prospects are good.
