Benefit

You get up to 10,000 SEK (about 890 EUR) for a short research trip abroad, given by Malmö University. It is made up of a daily allowance of 357 SEK (about 32 EUR) for your living costs, plus a flat travel grant of 5,000 SEK (about 445 EUR). The maximum applies to a full 14-day stay. The grant covers research visits of at least 2 days and at most 2 weeks (travel days not counted) at a partner university in the UNIC network. UNIC is a group of European universities in cities going through post-industrial change. You are also covered by the university's "Student UT" travel insurance during the trip. Typical activities include collecting data for your thesis, joining a research group or lab, taking part in research seminars or workshops, or working in a UNIC City Lab on urban challenges.

Eligibility

• University: You are actively enrolled as a student at Malmö University.
• Where you go: You have a clear plan for a research stay at a UNIC partner university in Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Croatia or Turkey.
• Invitation: You have an invitation letter from a host supervisor at the partner university, naming the dates and planned activities.
• Home backing: A supervisor or programme coordinator at Malmö University confirms in writing that the project fits your studies.
• Field of study: All subjects are open, as long as your trip supports research or your degree project.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. You only need to be enrolled at Malmö University.
• No double funding: You cannot combine this grant with Erasmus+ funding.

How to apply

You apply online through the MoveON portal. You attach a project description, your Malmö supervisor's confirmation, the host university's invitation letter and your certificate of registration. The application window runs from 15 March to 31 December 2026, but can close earlier once the funds run out. Apply at least one month before your planned start, and at the latest one day before the stay begins. A UNIC steering group at Malmö University reviews applications and judges mainly how workable your plan is.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly. You must be enrolled at Malmö University and have both a concrete research plan and a confirmed host at a UNIC partner university, so the pool of eligible students stays small. At most 4 applications are approved per round, and funds can run out early. A clear, well-organised project and an early application matter most. If you already have your invitation and supervisor backing in place, your prospects are good.
