What the Zonta scholarships give you

Zonta International runs four separate awards for women and girls. All pay out in US dollars.

• Women in STEM Award: 5,000 USD (about 4,600 EUR) plus one year of Zonta membership, for 16 women worldwide.
• Amelia Earhart Fellowship: 12,000 USD (about 11,000 EUR), for up to 30 women a year. A fellowship is a grant to support your studies or research.
• Women in Business Leadership Award: 5,000 USD (about 4,600 EUR) plus one year of membership, for 10 women worldwide.
• Young Women in Leadership Award: 5,000 USD (about 4,600 EUR), for 37 recipients a year.

Zonta International funds all four awards. In Sweden they are run by Zonta District 21, which supports women entering fields and leadership roles where women are under-represented.

Who can apply

• Gender: All four awards are for women and girls only.
• Women in STEM: You study science, technology, engineering or maths. You must be between your second bachelor's year and the final year of a doctorate, and show strong research or achievements.
• Amelia Earhart: You are a full-time doctoral student with very good grades, doing research linked to aerospace or aviation. You have finished your first doctoral year or hold a master's in a related field, and you graduate no earlier than April 2028.
• Women in Business Leadership: You are 18 to 35 and show strong leadership, entrepreneurship and ethics in business studies or work. You are also active on issues affecting women and girls or on climate justice.
• Young Women in Leadership: You are 16 to 19 on 1 April of the application year. You live in or are a citizen of a country where Zonta operates, and you have shown leadership and community involvement.
• Membership: You do not need to be a Zonta member. But members and their relatives cannot apply.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you meet the residence rules above.

How to apply

For the STEM, Business Leadership and Young Women awards, you apply in English through your local Swedish Zonta club by e-mail. If you are unsure which club, ask at the contact address. Deadlines to Swedish clubs are 10 January 2027 (STEM) and 25 October 2026 (Business Leadership). Young Women deadlines vary by club. You apply for the Amelia Earhart Fellowship directly online at Zonta International by 15 November 2026. Selection runs from club to district to Zonta International. You can apply for the STEM or the Business Leadership award, but not both.

How realistic are your chances?

Each award is cut narrowly by field, age and gender, so fewer people qualify than for open scholarships. But these are global awards with only 10 to 37 winners each, so the international competition is real. If you clearly fit one award's profile, especially a specialised one like aerospace research, and send a complete English application on time, your prospects are solid.
