Sweden's Engineers Environmental Fund Scholarship

You get a one-off grant of up to 50,000 SEK (about 4,400 EUR) to write a master's thesis on a climate or environmental problem at LTH, the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University. The money is paid tax-free directly to you. It helps cover the costs of your thesis work, for example travel or activities that turn your idea into a real solution. For the 2026/2027 year there are 10 grants, one per thesis. If you work in a group, you split the amount. The fund is run by Sweden's Engineers (Sveriges Ingenjörer), the Swedish engineers' association. It backs thesis projects that improve the environment in Sweden and nearby, ideally leading to new companies, jobs or solutions that get put into practice.

Who can apply

• University: You study at LTH (Lund University's Faculty of Engineering).
• Programme: You are enrolled in a three- or five-year engineering programme, the Fire Protection Engineering programme, or a two-year master's programme.
• Thesis topic: Your master's thesis addresses a climate or environmental issue.
• Timing: You meet LTH's requirements to start your master's thesis at the beginning of the spring semester 2027, and you plan to both start and finish it during that semester.
• Membership bonus: Members of Sweden's Engineers get priority, but you do not need to be a member to apply.
• Not eligible: Students in Architecture, Digital Architecture and Emergent Futures, Sustainable Urban Design, or Industrial Design cannot apply.

How to apply

Send your application by email to LTH's scholarship office by 10 November 2026, with the scholarship name in the subject line. You need a project goal document, a description of how your thesis results could be applied, and your transcript of records from Ladok. An assessment group with LU Innovation reviews the applications, and the Environmental Fund's board makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is narrowly targeted: only LTH students writing an environment-focused thesis in eligible engineering programmes can apply, so the pool is small compared with open scholarships. With 10 grants available, a well-matched applicant with a clear, scientifically solid project and a concrete plan for using the results has good prospects. Membership of Sweden's Engineers adds an edge, since members get priority.
