Benefit

You receive a one-off 5,000 SEK (about 440 EUR) for writing a master's thesis about the Swedish photo book. The award comes from Fotoförfattarna, the photo-authors' section of the Swedish Photographers' Association (SFF). It can be given up to twice a year, once in each of the two application rounds. Fotoförfattarna may publish all or part of an awarded thesis in its own channels.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are writing a master's thesis.
• Topic: Your thesis is about the Swedish photo book. This is the one firm requirement.
• Field of study: Any field. Students of librarianship, archiving, museum studies or art history are the main audience, but anyone with a matching thesis can apply.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Apply through the online form on the scholarship page. There are two windows each year: 5 December 2026 to 13 January 2027, and 1 April 2027 to 4 May 2027. You send a study plan, a draft or the finished thesis, and a personal cover letter. The more fully you describe your work, the better your chances. The board of Fotoförfattarna decides, and you cannot appeal the decision. You may apply for the same thesis in both rounds of a year, for example before and after finishing it.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly: your thesis must be about the Swedish photo book, so the eligible group is small and few people compete for it. If your work clearly fits that topic and you describe it in detail, your prospects are good. The amount is modest, and applying in both rounds gives you two shots at it.
