What the Greta Gerell Foundation scholarship offers

You get a grant of an undisclosed amount towards studies or a project connected to Sweden's anthroposophical movement. This is the education and cultural tradition founded by Rudolf Steiner, the same tradition behind Waldorf/Steiner schools. The foundation was set up in 1967 by the Swedish painter Greta Gerell, who left her art and money to support students and projects in this field. Be realistic about the size: most of the foundation's wealth sits in its art collection, so it hands out only a very small amount each year.

Who can apply

• Field of study: Your degree course or project is related to the anthroposophical movement in Sweden, for example in the fields of art, music, care and health, the natural sciences, theology or education.
• Financial need: You need financial support to carry out your studies or your project.
• Merit: Your academic or artistic achievements also count.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Age: No age limit.
• University: Any institution is fine.

How to apply

There is no online portal and no set application form. Please send a brief written enquiry to the Board using the contact form on the Foundation’s website. Describe what the money is to be used for, and attach a budget, a timetable and your contact details. There is no annual deadline. The Board meets once in the spring and once in the autumn; please therefore submit your application in good time before one of these meetings.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a small target group: studies and projects relating to the anthroposophical movement in Sweden. Very few people apply for it. The catch is the funding, as the foundation openly admits that only a very small amount is available each year. If you clearly fall within this category and can demonstrate a genuine financial need based on a specific budget and plan, you may be eligible for funding. Simply regard such funding as modest support rather than a full study grant.
