Korean Society's Board of Directors - Korean Society Scholarship

Korean Society Scholarship

You will receive financial support for a study visit to South Korea. The amount and duration of the funding are not fixed. The committee decides on a case-by-case basis. Previous scholarship holders have used the money for Korean language courses or for Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD programmes at universities such as Seoul National University, Yonsei University and Korea University. The funding comes from the ‘Koreanska sällskapet’ (Korean Society), a Swedish association for people interested in Korea. The award is presented once a year at the association’s spring meeting.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Swedish citizen.
• Where you go: You’re planning to study in South Korea, or you’re already studying there.
• Field of study: Your studies have a clear connection to Korea, for example Korean language, culture or history, or another subject studied there.
• What the board looks at: To what extent is this stay important for your future plans, and how long will you be staying?

How to apply

There is no application form. Please submit your documents by 8 March 2026 by email and post. You will need to provide a personal cover letter with your contact details, your academic transcripts with certified copies, a study or activity plan, and an invitation or a letter of acceptance from Korea or Sweden. You may be invited to an interview and asked to provide references.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a scholarship with very strict selection criteria. You must be a Swedish citizen and have concrete plans to study a subject related to Korea in South Korea, meaning that only a small number of people meet the requirements. If you clearly meet these conditions and can provide a well-thought-out study plan as well as confirmation of a place at university, your chances are good. As a small panel decides on the award, a clear, well-reasoned justification is particularly important.
