Nobel Foundation study scholarship at KTH

You receive a one-off scholarship to support your degree project (examensarbete, the final thesis of your studies) in chemistry at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The exact amount is not published. Other KTH scholarships have paid between 2,000 and 40,000 SEK (about 175 to 3,500 EUR), and this one may be smaller because the fund holds very little money. The money comes from the Nobelska stiftelsen, a foundation set up in 1927 and attached to KTH. Despite the name, it is not the international body that awards the Nobel Prizes.

Who can apply

• University: You are an active student in the chemistry programme at KTH (for example Kemiteknik, Kemi och kemiteknik or Kemivetenskap), in the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health.
• Your degree project: Your thesis covers one of the priority topics. First choice is explosives technology (energetic materials such as explosives, propellants and pyrotechnics). Second is related chemical technology such as energy storage or alternative energy sources. Third is other related fields at KTH.
• Nationality: You are a Swedish citizen.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly. You must be a Swedish chemistry student at KTH working on a thesis in a specific area, ideally explosives technology, so very few people qualify. If you clearly match those conditions, the competition is small. Keep in mind the fund holds very little money, so it may pay only a modest amount or few awards in a given year.
