What the MSci Moreton Prize gives you

As the second-highest-achieving graduate of the MSci Physics programme at the University of Birmingham, you will receive a one-off cash prize of approximately 345 EUR (£280). The MSci is the four-year integrated Master’s programme in Physics. The School of Physics and Astronomy awards this prize alongside the Smith Prize, which is awarded to the top-performing student.

Who can win it

• Degree: You’re currently finishing your four-year MSci degree in Physics in Birmingham.
• Field: Physics, at the School of Physics and Astronomy.
• Results: You’re in second place in the overall rankings for your year group.
• Nationality: Anyone, whatever their nationality, can win. It’s your results that count.
• Special case: A student on the Theoretical Physics and Applied Mathematics (TPAM) degree programme can also win if their marks are better than those of students who are studying physics as their sole main subject.

How to apply

No application is required. The university automatically awards the prize to the student with the second-highest final marks.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a merit-based award rather than an open scholarship, so you cannot apply for it or work towards it. Only one pupil receives it each year: the one who comes second in the overall rankings. Your only means of influencing the outcome are your marks, and only the very best pupils in the year group are eligible.
