Miss Nellie Watson Scholarship

During your acting training at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, you will receive about 3,620 EUR (3,115 GBP) for one year to cover your living costs. Six of these scholarships are awarded per selection round. The funds come from a donation left to the school by Nellie Watson to support young performers.

Who can apply

• Course: You are studying drama at the Central. This includes the Bachelor’s degree programmes (BA (Hons)) in drama, including the specialisms in musical theatre and CDT, as well as all Master’s degree programmes (MA) in drama.
• Nationality: Anyone can apply. Students from the UK, the EU and other countries are equally eligible to take part.
• Money you need: You can prove that you need financial support.
• Talent: Your skills and your progress on the course also play a part.

How to apply

Applications are made via Central’s in-house scholarship system. Current students and those who have been offered a place will receive an email containing a link to the application form and further information. By submitting a single application, you can apply for all funding for which you meet the eligibility criteria. Depending on the round, the application deadline is 16 January, 7 April or 22 May.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is restricted to drama students at a London school, so the pool of applicants is already small, and six places per round is by no means a small number for this group. Both financial need and talent are taken into account when awards are made, so a strong applicant who can clearly demonstrate both has a genuine chance. By submitting a single application, you are also applying for other Central grants at the same time.
