NUCA Bursaries at Norwich University of the Arts

You will receive a cash grant of up to about EUR 575 (500 GBP) per year, which you will never have to repay. It is awarded in addition to your standard student loan. Norwich University of the Arts (formerly NUCA) awards it to cover the cost of materials, equipment and other study-related expenses. The main grant decreases over the course of your studies: approximately 575 euros (500 GBP) in the foundation year and first year, approximately 345 euros (300 GBP) in the second year, and approximately 230 (200 GBP) in the third year. If you are a former child or young person in care, or if you no longer have contact with your parents, you will receive a separate grant of approximately 1,150 euros (1,000 GBP) per year for the entire duration of your studies.

Who can apply

• University: You are a new student starting a Bachelor’s degree at Norwich University of the Arts.
• Home student: You are a British student studying in Norwich in the UK. This grant is for study in the UK, not abroad.
• Field of study: Every subject at the university.
• Financial need (main bursary): Your funding organisation (e.g. Student Finance England) estimates your household income to be 25,000 GBP or less.
• Care leaver or no parental support (extra bursary): At the start of the course, you are 25. You are either a former resident of a children’s home (from the age of 14, you have spent at least 13 weeks in children’s homes, part of which was in 16 or 17) or it is officially recorded that you have no contact with your parents. This grant will continue to be paid even if you become 25 during your studies.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. When you apply for state student finance online, you agree that your details will be passed on to the university. The university department responsible for tuition fees will then check whether you meet the eligibility criteria and inform you of the result. Your financial details must be received by the university by 31 July, and you must notify the university of any changes by this date each year.

How realistic are your chances?

These grants are not awarded on a competitive basis: every eligible student receives a payment, without an interview and without a ranking list. If you are studying in Norwich, are from the UK and your assessed household income is 25,000 GBP or less, you will receive the grant automatically. Simply ensure that your student finance arrangements are in place and that the relevant details are received by the university before the deadline in July.
