Oxford Tuition Fee Reductions

Your annual tuition fees will be reduced by up to about 3,450 EUR (3,000 GBP) per year. The money will be paid directly into your student account and will not be paid out to you in cash. Oxford will also instruct the Student Loans Company to reduce your tuition fee loan by the same amount. This applies for up to 36 months, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. This is not a standalone scholarship, but rather an additional component of the Oxford Crankstart Scholarship for a specific group of students.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying for a full-time Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• When you started: You began your degree between 2016 and 2019. Students who began their degree in 2020 or later will receive grants instead of a tuition fee reduction.
• Programme: You are a current Crankstart scholarship holder. This means that your household income was below approximately 28,700 EUR (25,000 GBP) when you first applied in your first year of study.
• Financial need: Your household income remains below approximately 28,700 EUR (25,000 GBP).
• Nationality and funding: You are a student from the UK who is eligible for state funding. Your regional funding agency (for example, Student Finance England or SAAS in Scotland) has assessed your income.
• No other tuition grant: You are not currently receiving any other non-repayable grant to cover your tuition fees, such as an NHS grant. Furthermore, you are not on a year abroad.

How to apply

There is no separate form. The assessment is carried out automatically as part of your annual scholarship review (the annual review of your household income). You simply need to have submitted an application for state funding in the UK and agreed to disclose your household income to the University of Oxford. For the year 2025/26, your means test must be completed by 30 May 2026. Eligible students will be notified in writing.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very narrowly defined: only Crankstart scholarship holders who began their studies at Oxford between 2016 and 2019 and who still have a low household income are eligible. This group is small and not open to more recent students. If you fit this profile exactly, you will receive the grant automatically as soon as your means test has been submitted by the deadline – so there is no competition you need to win. The only important thing is that the means test is completed by the deadline of 30 in May.
