University of Strathclyde - Sir William Arrol Bursary

Benefit

You will receive a bursary (a non-repayable scholarship) to fund your studies in mechanical and aerospace engineering at University of Strathclyde or University of Glasgow. The scholarship is awarded by the ‘Incorporation of Hammermen of Glasgow’, a historic craft guild. It is named after Sir William Arrol, the Scottish engineer who built the Forth Railway Bridge. The exact amount is not disclosed.

Eligibility

• University: You are studying at the University of Strathclyde or the University of Glasgow.
• Field of study: You are studying mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
• Study phase: You are a first-year student and are mainly studying at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. Your department will put you forward, so the decision will be made by the Faculty of Engineering, rather than by you filling in a form.

How realistic are your chances?

The pool of candidates is small: only first-year students studying mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering at two universities are eligible. As the decision rests with your department, good academic performance in your first year is the key factor. If you achieve good results early on at the University of Strathclyde or the University of Glasgow, your department may put you forward.
