About this scholarship
Man Met Sport Scholars Programme
As a student and athlete at Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, you will receive a support package worth up to £10,000 per year. This is not a one-off cash payment. It comprises a reduction in tuition fees at one of three levels (20%, 40% or 75%), a grant towards your living costs, and a comprehensive support programme. This service includes nutritional and psychological counselling, physiotherapy and sports massages, strength and conditioning training, access to world-class facilities such as the Manchester Aquatics Centre and the University’s Institute of Sport, a free membership of sports clubs, and Man Met branded clothing. The scholarship is valid for one academic year and is reviewed annually. Outstanding applicants may receive additional support beyond the standard package.
Who can apply
- University: You are studying at Manchester Metropolitan University or have applied to study there for the next academic year.
- Degree level: Open to students in their undergraduate and postgraduate studies, including Master’s and PhD students.
- Field of study: Every subject at the university.
- Sporting level: You compete at regional, national or international level, or show great potential for the future.
- Representing the university: You can compete for Manchester Met in your sport.
- Sport: Priority is given to sports within the ‘British Universities and Colleges Sport’ (BUCS) programme, the UK’s inter-university sports league. This includes all individual BUCS sports, as well as the team sports of basketball, lacrosse, netball, rugby union and water polo.
- Grades: You meet the academic entry requirements for your degree programme.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, including international students.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the university’s online form. A sports scholarship committee assesses each application individually and determines the amount of funding to be awarded. Selection is made on a competitive basis.
How realistic are your chances?
As this award is linked to a specific university and to genuine sporting achievements, the pool of applicants is limited. You must be enrolled at Manchester Met (or applying to study there) and compete at a high level. The programme supported 65 athletes in 2025/26 – an increase on the 44 from the previous year – so whilst places are available, the standard is high. If you clearly meet the sporting and academic requirements, particularly in a priority BUCS sport, your chances are good.
