About this scholarship

The Study Abroad Bursary at Keele University

You will receive a one-off payment of about 1,170 EUR (£1,000) to fund a full academic year of study abroad. This payment is in addition to any loans and grants you are already receiving. It is a grant, not a loan, so you will never have to repay it. Keele University awards this grant to students who spend a full academic year at a partner university outside the EU and come from a low-income household.

Who can apply

  • Your university: You are a Bachelor’s student at Keele University.
  • Where you go: You have the opportunity to study for a full academic year at a partner university outside the EU. A single semester abroad does not count, nor do partner universities within the EU.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Financial need: Your household’s annual gross income is below £20,000 (approximately 23,000 EUR), as confirmed by Student Finance England.
  • No overlapping funding: You do not receive any funding from the Welsh National Assembly towards your tuition fees, nor do you receive an Erasmus grant.

How to apply

There is no need to fill in an application form. Keele University’s ‘Global Opportunities Team’ will check who meets the criteria and will contact you directly if you are eligible.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. You must be a Bachelor’s student at Keele University, spend a full year at a partner university outside the EU, and have a household income of less than £20,000,, meaning that only a small group of students meet the criteria. If you clearly meet these criteria, you do not need to apply for the scholarship in the usual way. The university will contact you directly. If you are planning a year abroad and your income is low, it is worth checking your eligibility with the Global Opportunities Team.
