About this scholarship
Tynybedw Law Bursary
To study law at King’s College London, you’ll pay around 9,300 EUR (£8,000) per year. Over the 3 years, this amounts to around 29,000 EUR (£25,000): around 9,300 EUR (£8,000) in the first and second years, and around 10,400 EUR (£9,000) in the final year. Funding will only continue if you can demonstrate satisfactory grades and sufficient attendance. Geraint Hughes, a lawyer and graduate of King’s College, and a former partner at Clifford Chance, established the scholarship to help students from Wales who require additional financial support for their law studies. One scholarship is awarded each year. Repeated years or study breaks are not eligible for funding.
Who can apply
- Degree: This is your first bachelor’s degree.
- Field of study: You are enrolled on any Bachelor’s degree programme in law at King’s College London.
- University place: You have formally accepted your offer of a place on an eligible law degree programme at King’s College.
- Residence: You live in Wales and have home student status (you pay the UK tuition fee rather than the fee applicable to international students).
- Financial need: Your household income is 69,200 GBP per year (approximately 80,000 EUR) or less.
- Student finance: You have received your full loans or grants for tuition fees and living costs from Student Finance Wales. You also agree that Student Finance Wales may pass on your financial details to King’s.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the King’s College London funding portal. Selection is based on your personal statement and an assessment of your financial circumstances. The application deadline for the academic year 2025/26 was on 6 July 2025 at 11 pm.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is very restricted: Only one is awarded each year, and you must live in Wales, be studying law at King’s and meet the income threshold. This keeps the pool of eligible applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate faces far less competition than they would for an open scholarship. As only one scholarship is awarded, a compelling personal statement, backed up by demonstrable financial need, is crucial to the award decision.
