About this scholarship
What the Anniversary Research Scholarships offered
As part of this programme, three years of full funding were allocated for a full-time PhD at Bangor University in Wales. Bangor launched the programme in 2009 to mark the university’s 125th anniversary, as part of a five-year initiative to expand research activities at postgraduate level. There were two types of funding: scholarships (with higher funding) and grants (with lower funding). The exact amounts were never published. Each grant was tied to a specific PhD project with a named academic supervisor, for example a PhD in cognitive neuroscience at the School of Psychology.
Who could apply
- Level: You wanted to start a full-time PhD programme (a research doctorate).
- Not already enrolled: They had not yet started a PhD programme at Bangor. Students already enrolled there were not eligible to apply.
- Field of study: The programme was open to students across the university, but you applied for a specific project that had been advertised. The topics on offer changed with each round and were based on the university’s main areas of research.
- Nationality: Open to applicants from the UK, the EU and other countries.
- The Grades: awards were presented to the best candidates on the basis of their academic achievements.
How realistic are your chances?
It was a fixed five-year programme that ended around 2013/2014. It is no longer available, and Bangor University no longer lists it. If you are looking for current funding opportunities at Bangor University, the university offers other research programmes for postgraduate students instead.
