About this grant / loan

Benefit

In civil engineering, you are offered a paid summer placement, which usually lasts 8 to 12 weeks. Companies offer three levels. The first is an independent paid summer placement. In the second, an annual cash allowance of at least 1,750 EUR (1,500 GBP) is added after the first summer. The third level is a full industry scholarship lasting at least two years, which includes a paid summer placement every year. During the placement, you’ll spend about half your time in the office and the other half on a building site. The programme is organised by the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol, so you’ll gain real-world experience and earn money whilst studying.

Eligibility

  • Where you study: You’re studying civil engineering at the University of Bristol.
  • Study stage: You’re mainly in your first year of study, so you can gain work experience early on. Second-year students can also apply if companies are looking for them.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. What matters is your place on the course in Bristol, not your background.

How to apply

Internships are advertised every year from November onwards via the faculty’s Business Relations Office. You complete a standard application form and submit it online. The companies then shortlist the applicants and conduct interviews at the university.
