IMechE Undergraduate Scholarships

You will receive about 2,300 EUR per year (£2,000), which will be paid for up to four years, amounting to a total of approximately 9,200 EUR (£8,000). The funding will be renewed each year, provided you make satisfactory progress. The funding is awarded by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the UK’s professional body for mechanical engineers. Two of the scholarships also include an internship: The ‘Eaton Undergraduate Scholarship’ may include an internship at Eaton, and the ‘Land Rover Spen King Sustainability Award’ (for students with an interest in sustainability) is linked to an internship at Jaguar Land Rover. The internship years are not financially supported.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You live in the UK.
• Study phase: You’re due to start your degree in the autumn and haven’t started yet.
• Field of study: You hold a degree in mechanical engineering which is recognised by the IMechE.
• University: You are studying at any UK university that offers a degree programme accredited by the IMechE.
• Application answers: Question 9 on the form has a significant impact on your choice, so please answer it carefully.

How to apply

Please complete the application form and submit it by email by 30 June 2026. Please submit the reference form to your referee, who must submit their reference directly by 15 July. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by mid-August and must attend an interview on a specified date. No alternative interview dates will be offered.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is aimed at a small target group: you must be resident in the UK and be starting a mechanical engineering degree accredited by the IMechE. This narrows down the pool of applicants. The committee determines the number of scholarships each year, and due to a compulsory interview, only a select group are shortlisted. If you clearly meet the criteria and provide convincing answers to the question 9, your chances are good.
