NHS Learning Support Fund for Adult Nursing

Whilst studying for a Bachelor’s degree in ‘BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult)’ at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, you will receive a study grant of at least £5,000 per year (about 5,900 EUR). The grant is paid out in each year of the three-year degree programme and does not need to be repaid. Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for further funding: £1,000 (approx. 1,180 EUR) for departments facing staff shortages, up to £2,000 (approx. 2,360 EUR) for childcare and up to £3,000 (approx. 3,540 EUR) from the Exceptional Hardship Fund if you find yourself in unexpected financial difficulties. This national NHS fund is in addition to your standard tuition fee and living costs loans from Student Finance England. It is extra money, not a replacement.

Who can apply

• Course: You are studying for a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nursing (Adult) at the University of Hertfordshire or another eligible degree programme in the fields of nursing, midwifery or related healthcare professions. Other degree programmes are not eligible.
• Study level: You are either a new student or a student already enrolled on a degree programme.
• Residency: You meet the NHS’s residence requirements for studying in England. Check the eligibility criteria for the NHS Learning Support Fund to ensure that you meet the requirements.

How to apply

You apply via UCAS (code B700) for a place on this degree programme; the standard entry requirement is 112 UCAS points. Once you have enrolled on an eligible degree programme, you must apply for funding separately via NHS Student Services (NHSBSA).

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a prize awarded through a competition, but an entitlement. If you are studying on an eligible nursing degree programme and meet the residence requirements, you will receive the basic grant of £5,000; so your prospects are good. There is no panel you need to convince, and no fixed number of funding places. The most important thing is that you meet the residence requirements and submit your application to the NHSBSA by the deadline.
