Widening Access and Participation (WAP) Fund

You will receive 560 EUR (approximately £485) as a scholarship to fund your studies at Ulster University in Northern Ireland. It is awarded for 12 months and will be applied as a 10% discount against your annual tuition fees. The funding comes from Ulster University, which reinvests a portion of the tuition fees to enable people from low-income households to study.

Who can apply

  • University: You’re studying at Ulster University in Northern Ireland.
  • Degree: You are studying for a full-time bachelor’s degree or a PGCE (a one-year teacher training course).
  • Where you live: You usually live in Northern Ireland.
  • Financial need: Your total household income is no more than approximately £19,200 per year.
  • Bank account: You have a bank account in the UK, as the money is being transferred there.
  • Field of study: All participants are eligible to take part.

How to apply

You do not need to submit an application. Ulster University will review your documents and automatically pay the amount to eligible students. The payment will be made on the last Monday in March.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive selection process. If you are studying full-time at Ulster University, live in Northern Ireland and your household income is below the specified threshold, you will receive the scholarship automatically. Your chances of receiving the scholarship depend solely on whether you meet these set criteria, and not on how many others apply. Please ensure that the university has your correct income and bank details.
