RIBA Part 1 and Part 2 Bursaries

You will receive about 9,200 EUR in total (GBP 8,000) to support your architecture studies in the UK. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) will pay this amount over two years in termly instalments: 1,500 GBP in the autumn term and 1,250 GBP in both the spring and summer terms. As part of its Education Fund, the RIBA awards several scholarships, which are funded by charitable foundations and private donors.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are currently studying for, or applying for, a RIBA-accredited architecture degree at 1 (Bachelor’s) or 2 (Master’s) level in the United Kingdom. You apply for Level 1 during your first year of study. The scholarship for Part 2 applies to degree programmes starting in September 2026.
• Field of study: Architecture only.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Domestic, EU and international students are all eligible to apply.
• Financial need: Without money, you can’t afford to carry on studying.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record and can demonstrate your commitment to architecture and your future goals.
• Extra routes: The Goldfinger Scholarship is primarily aimed at applicants from under-represented ethnic groups, from disadvantaged families, or those who are the first in their family to undertake a degree course. The John and David Hubert Scholarship supports students who are refugees, asylum seekers or have otherwise been forced to flee their homes.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the RIBA funding platform. The deadline for Part 1 is 13 March 2026 (15:00 GMT). The deadline for applications for Part 2 is 10 April 2026 (15:00 GMT+1). A panel from the RIBA Education Development Group will review the applications and decide on the allocation of funding.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria are strict: you must be studying architecture as part of an RIBA-accredited degree programme in the UK and demonstrate genuine financial need, which keeps the number of applicants low. The RIBA assesses need, commitment and academic achievement as a whole, so a clear, well-supported case is more important than grades alone. If you meet the criteria – and particularly if you are eligible for one of the targeted scholarships – your prospects are good.
