The Pump Court Tax Chambers Scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of approximately 11,700 EUR (10,000 GBP) for one academic year at the University of Oxford. This grant will support you whilst you are studying for a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) or a Magister Juris (MJur). Both are one-year postgraduate law programmes at Oxford. The funding is provided by Pump Court Tax Chambers, a London-based law firm specialising in tax law. One scholarship is awarded each year.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are starting your BCL or MJur degree at Oxford.
• Field of study: Law, with a genuine interest in tax law and a career as a tax solicitor registered with the English Bar.
• Where you study: University of Oxford, Faculty of Law.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Students from the United Kingdom, the EU and non-EU countries are treated equally.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record or demonstrate significant academic potential.
• Financial need: Your financial circumstances will also be taken into account.

How to apply

There is no separate application procedure. All those who have been offered a place on the BCL or MJur programme are automatically considered; you therefore apply via the University of Oxford’s standard admissions process (usually with an application deadline in January for a start date in October). As financial need is taken into account, please complete the means-test form enclosed with your offer of admission. Scholarship recipients are selected by the Selection Committee of the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is highly selective: only one scholarship is awarded each year, and it is reserved exclusively for BCL or MJur students who can demonstrate a genuine interest in tax law and a career as a tax lawyer. Due to this specific focus, the pool of applicants remains small compared to general law scholarships. If you clearly fit the profile for tax law, have good grades and can demonstrate financial need, your prospects are good. However, as only one place is awarded each year, competition is fierce.
