University College London - Amos UCL Bursary for Undergraduate Students

What you get

You will receive about 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP) per year for the entire duration of your Bachelor’s degree at University College London (UCL). To retain this funding, you must achieve satisfactory academic results. Five scholarships are awarded each year. The funding is only one part of the overall package. The scholarship is awarded in collaboration with ‘The Amos Bursary’, whose ‘Scholars’ programme – part of a five-year support scheme – includes mentoring (guidance from an experienced adviser), work placements with corporate and academic partners, career guidance and study abroad opportunities.

Who can apply

• Level: You are about to start a full-time Bachelor’s degree at UCL and have been offered a place for the next intake.
• Field of study: Every Bachelor’s degree programme at UCL.
• Gender: You are male.
• Heritage: You are British and have family ties to Africa or the Caribbean.
• Fee status: You pay the tuition fee rate for UK students (domestic students), not that for international students.
• School and grades: You attended a state school, an academy or a college in London or the West Midlands and have at least six GCSE qualifications with grades ranging from 9 to 6 (or equivalent qualifications).
• Background: You meet at least two criteria indicating financial or social disadvantage, such as a household income of less than 40,000 GBP, being the first in your family to go to university, receiving free school meals, or having been in care.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Amos Scholarship website, not via UCL. The application deadline for the next intake is 20 August 2026. Amos conducts a comprehensive selection process, and the scholarship is awarded to those who subsequently enrol to study at UCL.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very selective: only five places are available each year – for male students from the UK with an African or Caribbean background who have been offered a place at UCL and can demonstrate genuine financial or social disadvantage. This means the pool of eligible applicants remains small; so if you clearly meet all the criteria, your chances are good. Amos uses a multi-stage selection process, so a compelling personal statement that highlights your background is just as important as your grades.
