Jean Orr Scholarship at UCL

You will receive £7,000 (about 8,100 EUR) for one year of full-time study on a Master’s programme at University College London (UCL). This amount will initially be used to cover your tuition fees. The remaining amount will be paid to you in three equal instalments spread throughout the year to cover your living costs. Each year, a scholarship is awarded in the subjects of History, French, Italian or Dutch. You may combine this with other scholarships or grants; however, UCL reserves the right to reduce the amount depending on how much financial support you are already receiving. You must therefore inform the UCL Student Funding Office of any other funding you receive.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You will be starting a full-time Master’s degree at UCL in the academic year 2026/27.
• Field of study: You are studying History, French, Italian or Dutch.
• Offer: You have already been offered a place on one of these degree programmes.
• Nationality: Anyone can apply, whether they’re from the UK or abroad.
• Grades: You have a track record of outstanding academic achievement.

How to apply

You do not need to submit a separate application. The departments will select the winner from the applications for admission received. If you would like to be considered, please contact your department directly. The winners will be notified in August or September 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded each year, covering just four subjects at a university. The pool of eligible applicants is small, but as only one scholarship is awarded, competition remains fierce. If you have been admitted to study History, French, Italian or Dutch and have good grades, you are in the running, as no additional application is required. It all depends on how you compare with other admitted students in your department.
