Postgraduate Bursaries (Dutch) at UCL

You will receive a one-off payment of up to about 700 EUR (£600) for one academic year. This is intended to cover study-related costs such as books and research trips, but does not cover your tuition fees. The money comes from donations made by former Dutch UCL students. It is awarded to new students commencing the ‘Dutch Studies’ programme in London as part of the Master’s programme in ‘Language, Culture and History’.

Who can apply

• Programme: You are a new student on the ‘Dutch Studies’ module within the ‘Language, Culture and History’ Master’s programme at UCL.
• Confirmed place: You have received a written offer of admission from UCL and have accepted it in writing before the deadline.
• Degree: You must hold at least a second-class upper bachelor’s degree (2:1) in a relevant subject area or an equivalent foreign qualification.
• Dutch: You have a command of Dutch at approximately CEFR Level B2 (upper intermediate). Even if you do not hold a formal qualification in Dutch but have a good command of the language, you will still be considered.
• Nationality: Anyone can apply, including students from the UK and abroad.
• Money situation: Your financial circumstances are irrelevant. The award is decided solely on the basis of your academic performance, not on the basis of your financial need.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. Once you have been admitted to the Master’s programme and have accepted your place, you will automatically be considered. The decision will be made by the relevant staff on the basis of your admission documents.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is linked to a small Master’s programme, meaning that only a handful of new students studying Dutch Studies are eligible for it each year. If you have an excellent academic record and secure a place on the Master’s programme early on, your chances are good. Please note, however, that the scholarship is modest and only covers additional study costs; it does not cover your tuition fees.
