WH Revis Bequest Fund

You will receive a grant towards your tuition fees degree programme at the University of Nottingham. This will be deducted directly from your tuition fee invoice and will not be paid out to you in cash. There is no fixed amount. The amount depends on how much money is left in the fund at the time of your application, and the University may spread the amount over several semesters. The fund was established thanks to a donation from a Nottingham-based businessman and supports part-time postgraduate students who are unable to pay their tuition fees.

Who can apply

• Level: You are undertaking postgraduate studies that go beyond your first university degree.
• Study mode: You are studying part-time and are enrolled at the University of Nottingham in the UK, where you attend lectures.
• Residence: You usually live in the UK.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Financial need: You are unemployed or earn less than the published income thresholds and can prove that you are in financial hardship. Savings are counted as income.

How to apply

Apply for the grant via the University of Nottingham’s online grant application form and attach proof of your financial circumstances. The application period runs from October to July. The deadline for applications is 12 July or six weeks before the end of your studies – whichever comes first. As funds are limited, you should submit your application as early in the year as possible.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a fund with strict eligibility criteria. You must be enrolled as a part-time PhD student at this specific university, be resident in the UK, and be able to demonstrate that you are in financial hardship. This means that only a small number of applicants are competing for this funding. If you clearly meet these conditions and can demonstrate your need, your chances are good. However, funds are limited, and grant amounts decrease as the money runs out; therefore, it is important to apply early.
