Mary Clark Travel Award

You will receive a one-off grant of approximately 520 EUR (roughly £450) for a trip to the USA or a Commonwealth country during the summer break. The money will cover your living costs, your day-to-day expenses and the majority of your travel costs. You may use the grant for an internship, an elective module (a course you take as part of your studies abroad), a study project, a conference, a voluntary placement or a general trip. Your trip must take place between March and October. King’s College London administers the scholarship and awards several scholarships per cycle. It is named after Mary E. Clarke, a former student who left a generous donation to the College.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at King’s College London.
• Gender: This prize is for women only.
• Study level: Both undergraduates and postgraduates are eligible to apply.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Progress: You have completed at least three semesters (one academic year) of full-time study.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Priority: Priority is given to students returning to King’s College next year; final-year students may also apply. Anyone who has already won one of these prizes is not eligible to receive it again.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the ‘King’s Student Records’ portal. You must submit an itinerary, a brief statement explaining the purpose and benefits of the trip, and a budget breakdown. You may apply for up to two different travel grants in a single application. The Travel Grants Committee reviews all applications submitted.

How realistic are your chances?

The funding is aimed exclusively at female students at King’s College who have completed at least one academic year; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is far smaller than for open scholarships. Several scholarships are awarded in each round, which is helpful, but priority is given to female students who will be continuing their studies next year. If you meet these criteria and submit a clear plan along with a detailed financial plan, your chances are good.
