University of Nottingham - Childcare Support Scheme

What you get

Whilst studying at the University of Nottingham, you will receive a sum of grant towards your childcare costs. This does not need to be repaid. There is no fixed amount. The University determines the amount based on your individual needs and the funds still available in the scheme, so it may be reduced during the course of the year. Grants of 1,000 GBP (approximately 1,150 EUR) are paid out in instalments throughout the academic year. The fund is administered by the University’s ‘Funding and Financial Support’ team to help student parents cover the costs of childcare.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the University of Nottingham in the UK and are currently studying there.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, including students from the United Kingdom, the EU and other countries.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• You are the parent: You are the legal parent or guardian of the child or children in your care.
• Household: The child or children live with you.
• Financial need: You can provide evidence that you are in financial hardship.
• Childcare: You need childcare, and the childcare provider is registered with Ofsted, the UK’s childcare regulator. A family member who is legally exempt from the registration requirement also counts.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the university’s online grant application form. The application period runs throughout the academic year, from October to 9 July 2027, or up to six weeks before the end of your degree programme, should it end earlier. You may apply once per academic year. As funding is limited, you should apply as early as possible.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a merit-based scholarship, but a means-tested grant. If you are a student at the University of Nottingham, live with your child as a parent or guardian, and can demonstrate genuine financial hardship as well as childcare costs, you have a good chance of receiving this grant. The biggest risk is the timing, as funds are limited and the amounts awarded decrease as the fund runs out. Applying early in the year gives you the best chance of success.
