About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a rent-free room at St Edmund Hall for 12 months. In the past, the college has estimated the value of this scholarship at around £5,250 per year (approximately 6,100 euros). The scholarship is valid for one year. You may reapply for a second year, meaning you can live rent-free for up to two years. St Edmund Hall, a college of the University of Oxford, awards three of these scholarships each year. The funding comes from the late alumnus and philanthropist William (Bill) Miller. The scholarship covers your accommodation only. You will still need to cover your tuition fees and living costs yourself, and you must demonstrate that you can fund the remainder of your studies from other sources.
Eligibility
- Level: You are a research assistant on a postgraduate programme and are currently undertaking, or planning to undertake, further studies such as a Master’s degree or a PhD.
- College: If you win, you must be a student enrolled at St Edmund Hall, University of Oxford.
- Application stage: You can apply before you enrol at Oxford, provided you have already submitted an application for admission. Once you know the result, please let the college know.
- Field of study: Any topic is fine.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
You should apply directly to St Edmund Hall, not via the University of Oxford’s general application process. Please submit an application form, a short statement of purpose outlining your research proposal, and two letters of reference.
How realistic are your chances?
As only three scholarships are awarded each year, places are scarce and competition is fierce. A clear, well-reasoned research proposal and strong references will improve your chances. As the scholarship covers accommodation only, it is best suited to you if your tuition fees and living costs are already covered.
