Benefit

You will receive a grant of top-up grant tailored to your situation towards your training or further training as a teacher of religious education or home economics (including nutrition and textiles) in the United Kingdom. There is no fixed amount. The All Saints Educational Trust, a UK charity that has been operating for over 40 years, supplements your own funds and any government grants. It covers additional costs or fees for which no public funding is available. Funding may be awarded for up to three years. To continue receiving it beyond the first year, you must demonstrate sufficient progress.

Eligibility

• Nationality: You are a British citizen. Applicants from abroad are not currently eligible to apply.
• Field: Your degree programme is in the field of religious education or home economics, including nutrition and textiles. Other subjects, as well as social work, youth work and training to become a minister, are not eligible for funding.
• If you are training: Your degree programme leads to ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ (the teaching qualification for the UK) or an equivalent qualification from a British university.
• If you already teach: Your course is a professional development programme or a postgraduate action research programme designed to enhance your teaching skills and supervised by a British university.
• Level: Any level of qualification, from a B.Ed or PGCE through to a Master’s or PhD. Individual courses lasting less than a year are not usually taken into account.
• Admission: You have already been offered a place on your degree programme.
• Financial need: You must not cover the costs from your own funds or from existing public funds.

How to apply

You apply via the Trust’s online portal and upload your letter of acceptance and your professional references. Applicants for teacher training apply in round 1 (start: 2026 January, end: 27 March 2026) or in round 2 (closing at 5, 1 September 2026). Practising teachers and applicants for postgraduate programmes must apply by the deadline on 1 September. A committee will assess the written applications.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this grant are very narrow: only two fields of study, only British citizens, and only where there is demonstrable financial need. As a result, the number of people eligible for the grant remains small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can prove your financial need, your chances are good. Make sure you submit your application in good time, as it must be fully completed and verified in order to be considered.
