Glenburn Educational Trust

You will receive a one-off payment to cover your living costs whilst you are studying a science degree at University of the West of Scotland (UWS). The amount is determined on a case-by-case basis. The UWS’s endowment funds range from a few hundred pounds to larger sums; however, this fund is small and is divided amongst a limited number of grants. It serves as supplementary funding for students who require further financial support in addition to their statutory funding – such as student loans, grants and the University’s Discretionary Fund. The fund is administered by the UWS Funding and Advice Team.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are a full-time undergraduate student at UWS.
• Field of study: You are studying at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
• Where you live: Your permanent residence (where you live outside term time) is in Scotland. Applicants from the Glenburn area near Paisley will be given priority.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities may apply, provided they meet the above-mentioned residence requirement.
• Financial need: You can explain that you need extra money and give reasons why.
• Other funding first: You have already applied for all other statutory financial support available to you (student loans, scholarships and the discretionary fund) and have received a decision on each application.

How to apply

Applications must be made using the standard application form provided by the UWS Trust Fund. Please explain why you should be selected and enclose evidence of your financial need. Applications are assessed against one another, so the selection process is highly competitive.

How realistic are your chances?

The fund is aimed at a small target group: you must be studying a science degree at UWS, live in Scotland and demonstrate financial need. As a result, the number of eligible applicants remains low. If you are also from the wider Glenburn area in Paisley, you will be given priority, which improves your chances. As funding and the number of scholarships are limited, a clear, well-reasoned explanation of why you need this support is crucial.
