What you get

You will receive a discount of 20% reduction on your tuition fees towards a postgraduate programme at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. This is not a cash payment: the discount will be deducted directly from your tuition fee invoice. If you are enrolled as a full-time student, it applies to your first full academic year. If you are studying part-time (UK/EU students only), it applies to each year of your programme. It applies only to your first postgraduate or doctoral programme; the full fee will be charged for any subsequent programmes. Repeated modules are excluded from this offer. The discount is awarded by the university itself and is intended for its own former undergraduate students who are returning to continue their studies.

Who can apply

• Your first degree: You have obtained a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hertfordshire, either in the United Kingdom or at one of its partner universities abroad. Graduates of the former CNAA or Hatfield Polytechnic are also included. You are also eligible if you completed the University’s study abroad programme whilst enrolled at another higher education institution.
• What you study now: You have accepted a place on a Master’s programme, a Postgraduate Certificate, a Postgraduate Diploma or a PhD programme (research programmes from 2018 to 19) at the University of Hertfordshire.
• You pay your own fees: You must pay the full amount of the tuition fees directly to the university from your own funds. You must not receive financial support from an employer, a charitable organisation, a government body or the university itself. Money from your family or from an external source that covers your living costs does not count as financial support.
• Nationality: The full-time programme is open to students from the UK, the EU and other countries. The part-time programme is intended exclusively for students from the UK and the EU.
• Courses that do not qualify: PGCE, the ‘Certificate in Professional Studies’, a number of vocational certificates, short courses and certain degree programmes funded by an SFE loan for undergraduate students (for example, the MSc in Nursing Science, the accelerated Master’s in Midwifery, the unpaid ‘School Direct’ programme, the MArch in Architecture and Urban Planning, and the MSc in Physiotherapy).

How to apply

No separate application is required. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the university will automatically apply the 20% discount and reduce your tuition fees accordingly. You must meet all enrolment requirements before you can receive the discount.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition. It is an automatic discount for anyone who meets the criteria; there is therefore neither a selection panel nor a pool of applicants you have to compete against. If you are an undergraduate student at the University of Hertfordshire returning to study an eligible Master’s programme and are paying your own tuition fees, you will automatically receive the discount. The only reasons that may lead to exclusion are receiving financial support from a sponsor, choosing a programme that is not eligible, or claiming another form of funding that cannot be combined with this one.
