London South Bank University - Elite Sports Scholarship

Benefit

You will receive up to about EUR 1,750 per year (up to £1,500) for the duration of your studies. In addition, you will be partially reimbursed for travel and entry fees for competitions. The funding is provided by London South Bank University (LSBU) through its sports department, ‘LSBU Active’. In addition to this financial support, you will have access to a personal development adviser who will help you balance your training and studies. You’ll also receive free access to sports science support at the university’s Human Performance Centre (physiology, biomechanics, psychology, nutrition and strength training), free sports therapy massages, free coaching workshops, free team kit, and the opportunity to take part in competitions abroad.

Eligibility

• University: You are enrolled on any degree programme (undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral) at London South Bank University in the United Kingdom.
• Your sport: You compete at a high level and have an impressive track record. Athletes competing at international senior level will be given priority, but all elite athletes may apply and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Basketball players must play at least in the Basketball England National League, Division 2.
• Licence: You hold a valid, current licence from the national governing body for your sport.
• References: You may name two referees, for example a national coach or a club coach.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities and genders are welcome to apply. International athletes will be assessed against the standard of British athletes.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.

How to apply

Please email the application form to LSBU Active, together with a recommendation from your coach and evidence of your results. Applications for 2026/27 will be accepted from 1. July 2026 until 23 October 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview before the winners are selected.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is primarily aimed at elite international-level athletes, but all high-performance athletes are eligible to apply, so competition is fierce. Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis. If you have an impressive sporting track record, a valid licence and strong references, your chances are good. Please submit your complete application with all supporting documents before the deadline, as incomplete applications will be rejected.
