Oxford University Alumni Network Bursary Awards

You will receive a grant of one-off grant to help fund a summer project, such as a work placement, an internship or a study-related activity during the semester break. The amount is small and varies depending on the group. The East Sussex Alumni Association, for example, offers up to 400 GBP (approximately 460 EUR) to students undertaking an internship. The funding comes from the University of Oxford’s alumni groups, which are run by former Oxford students who support current students from their region or academic department. There are around 170 such groups worldwide, each of which sets its own amounts and rules.

Who can apply

• University: You are currently studying at the University of Oxford.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Link to a group: As a rule, applicants must have a connection to the alumni group awarding the scholarship. Many scholarships are awarded to students from a specific region or county in the UK, or to those who represent the interests of a particular group.
• What you fund: You are using the grant for a summer activity such as an internship, a career-entry programme or a study-related project.

How to apply

You apply directly to the alumni group awarding the scholarship, as each group processes its own applications. Deadlines vary depending on the group, so you should always check the deadlines for the group you are applying to. A common deadline is 16 December.

How realistic are your chances?

These scholarships are very narrowly defined. You must be a Bachelor’s student at the University of Oxford, and most scholarships are aimed at students from a specific region or with a particular area of interest, meaning that there are only a few applicants for each one. If you clearly meet the criteria for a particular group and apply by the deadline, your chances are good. The amounts are modest, so these scholarships are more suited to providing additional funding for a summer project than to financing an entire academic year.
