South Square Trust Final Year Award for BA Theatre Design

You will receive a one-off payment of approximately 6,400 EUR (5,500 GBP) for your final year on the Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Theatre Design’ at Wimbledon College of Arts, which is part of the University of the Arts London (UAL). The money will help you cover your tuition fees and living costs. It will also give you the opportunity to buy materials for your projects and attend theatre performances and exhibitions. The grant is provided by the South Square Trust, a charitable organisation that provides financial support to art students through partner institutions such as UAL. One student receives this grant each year.

Who can apply

• Course: You are in your final year of the full-time Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Theatre Design’ (set and costume design) at Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL.
• Fee status: For the purposes of tuition fees, you are classified as a ‘home’ student, which means that you are resident in the United Kingdom and are not considered an international student.
• Financial need: You need help with funding your studies.
• Grades: You have achieved excellent academic results. The selection process will take into account both your financial need and your academic performance.

How to apply

You cannot apply directly to the South Square Trust. Places are allocated by UAL; you should therefore contact the Wimbledon College of Arts to ask whether they can put you forward for this.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very strictly defined: only local students in their final year of study who are enrolled on a specific degree programme at a specific university are eligible to apply, and only one place is awarded each year. This keeps the pool of applicants very small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate not only good academic performance but also a genuine financial need, your chances are good.
