What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of 1,500 EUR for one academic year, awarded by the Dr Wilhelm Gross Foundation. The foundation is administered by the City of Steyr in Austria, and the city council decides who receives the funds. This is a one-off payment, not a monthly scholarship. The amount is reviewed each year, so it may vary from one round of awards to the next.

Who can apply

• Field of study: Mathematics students are given priority. If no mathematics students apply, students from other disciplines who meet the remaining criteria may be considered.
• Where you study: You are enrolled at a university in Austria or in another EU country.
• Study progress: You must have completed at least two semesters. First-year students are not eligible to apply.
• Grades: Your results for the last two semesters show an overall grade of at least ‘good’.
• Where you live: You live in Steyr, Austria.
• Financial need: You are already receiving Austrian state study grants under the Study Grants Act (Studienförderungsgesetz 1992) and can provide the relevant official notification confirming this.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Please send an informal written application by email to the City of Steyr, with the subject line ‘Dr Wilhelm Groß Foundation Study Grant’. The application deadline is 16 October. The Steyr City Council will then decide who receives the grant.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. You must live in Steyr, be studying mathematics (or step in if no mathematics students apply), have good grades and be receiving state study grants. This combination ensures that the pool of eligible applicants remains small, meaning that a well-suited candidate will face very little competition. If you meet these requirements and apply by 16 October, your chances are good.
