About this scholarship

Ordinary Scholarship of the mdw Vienna

You will receive 200 to 600 EUR per month for 9 months. The grant may be awarded for up to two academic years. The exact amount depends on your financial circumstances. The University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) awards this grant to international students who are performing well in their studies and require financial support. The grant is intended to support your studies in Vienna. Stays abroad, such as those undertaken as part of the Erasmus programme, are not covered by this grant.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are an international student and not an Austrian citizen.
  • Degree: You are in a Bachelor's, Master's or Diploma programme at the mdw, from the 3rd semester onwards. You do not already hold a Master's degree. The scholarship does not cover doctoral studies.
  • Field of study: Every subject taught at the mdw.
  • Grades: You have achieved a ‘very good’ or ‘good’ grade in your main art subject.
  • Study progress: You have earned at least 8 ECTS credits in compulsory modules during your last semester.
  • Financial need: You can prove that you need financial support.
  • Age: You are no older than 28.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the mdw form. Please use a tablet, a PC or a laptop for this – not a smartphone. For the academic year 2026/27, the application period runs from 1 June to 26 June 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is highly selective. You must be studying at a specific university, be an international student who has already completed the 3th semester, have very good grades in your main subject, and demonstrate financial need. As a result, the number of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can demonstrate financial need, your chances are good – so be sure to apply within the short application window in June.
