About this scholarship

What you get

You receive a grant towards a scientific, artistic, literary or journalistic project. There is no fixed amount. The foundation works it out per project from its yearly funds. In one round, for example, it shared about 17,000 EUR across 9 projects and 4 individuals. The Burgenland-Stiftung Theodor Kery supports work in science, the arts, culture, sport and social topics. It gives priority to projects that matter to the people and the reputation of Burgenland, the Austrian federal province.

Who can apply

  • Residence: You live in Austria.
  • Your project: It fits one of the funded areas: social topics (digitalisation and innovation, climate and sustainability, care and social work), art, culture and sport, or science and research (humanities, natural sciences, economics and social sciences).
  • Focus: Priority goes to work that matters for Burgenland, its people and its standing at home and abroad.
  • Stage: Your project is still ongoing. Finished work is not funded.
  • No degree work: Work done to earn an academic degree, such as a thesis, cannot be funded.
  • No double funding: You do not already have enough funding from elsewhere.
  • Timing gap: If you were funded before, 5 years must have passed since that last grant.

How to apply

Fill in the application form. Send it with your project description and a cost and financing plan by 15 January, either as a scanned PDF by email or by post to the foundation in Eisenstadt. If you apply as a group, name one person to represent you. The board decides on the advisory committee's recommendation, and you hear the result in early April.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is cut narrowly. You must live in Austria and run a project that clearly serves Burgenland, so the pool is smaller than for open research grants. If your work has a genuine Burgenland angle, fits one of the named areas and is still in progress, your prospects are solid. A clear project description with a realistic cost plan, and no overlapping funding, is what sets a strong application apart.
