French Community of Belgium Travel Bursaries

You will receive up to 5,000 EUR for a research stay abroad whilst working on your PhD. The amount depends on where you are travelling to: up to 4,000 EUR within the EU or to a neighbouring country, and up to 5,000 EUR outside the EU. The grant reimburses actual costs upon presentation of original receipts: registration fees at a foreign institution, for a conference or seminar, return travel between your place of work and your destination, accommodation costs and visa fees. The stay lasts between 2 and 6 months and takes place at a foreign university or as part of field research. The funding comes from the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (formerly the French Community of Belgium) and is paid out via your own university.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a PhD student and are working on your thesis.
• University: You are enrolled at a French-speaking Belgian university funded by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, such as UNamur, UCLouvain or ULB.
• Where you go: Your stay will take place outside the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, at a university abroad or as part of field research.
• Field of study: All subjects can apply.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• No double funding: You may not receive another travel grant at the same time.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via your own university. Each university conducts its own selection process and selects scholarship recipients from amongst its own PhD students. The application deadline is 15 October.
