Assistència Sanitària - Grants for Students of Healthcare and Life Sciences

Benefit

You will receive a one-off grant of half of your tuition fee, up to 1,000 EUR for one academic year of a Master’s or postgraduate programme. The grant cannot be extended. The funding is provided by Assistència Sanitària, a Catalan health insurer which has been funding these scholarships every year since 2008. In each round of awards, 30,000 EUR is distributed amongst the selected students.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are starting a Master’s or postgraduate programme in a health-related subject area.
• Where you study: The course takes place at a university in Catalonia (Spain).
• Admission: You have been admitted to the course you have chosen.
• Field of study: Your first degree must be in medicine, nursing or another health sciences discipline. You may also apply if your field of study is directly or indirectly related to the healthcare sector, or if you work for a healthcare organisation or a health insurance provider.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Timing: Your degree programme begins between September and April of the funding year.
• First-time only: You have not yet received any financial support from Assistència Sanitària.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the ‘Scholarships’ section on the Assistència Sanitària website. The deadline for applications is 18 May. The selection process consists of two stages. First, independent assessors evaluate the applications based on the applicant’s age, previous academic results and the suitability of their academic background for the healthcare sector. A scholarship committee then makes the final decision. The results will be announced in June.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. You must be enrolled on a Master’s degree programme or a postgraduate programme in healthcare at a Catalan university, which means that the pool of eligible applicants is small. As there is a total of 30,000 EUR available for distribution and each scholarship is capped at 1,000 EUR, several people will be awarded funding in each round. If you clearly fall within the healthcare sector and have been admitted to your degree programme, your chances are good. A connection to ‘Assistència Sanitària’ or the ‘Hospital de Barcelona’ is an advantage.
