About this scholarship

Internships in Development Cooperation (Junta de Castilla y León)

During your work placement in the regional government’s international development cooperation department, you will receive 1,350 EUR per month (gross, before tax). The placement lasts for maximum of 24 months. The first phase runs from your start date until 31 December of the same year and is subsequently extended each year, provided that the budget allows and your supervisor’s report is favourable. Funding is provided by the Junta de Castilla y León, the regional government of Castile and León in Spain. You will work within its administration in the field of development cooperation, focusing primarily on raising public awareness of the causes of poverty.

Who can apply

  • Age: You are between 16 and 35 years old.
  • Link to the region: You were born in Castile and León or have been officially registered (empadronamiento) in a municipality in this region for at least two years.
  • University degree: You hold a higher education qualification worth at least 240 ECTS credits (e.g. a ‘Grado’, ‘Licenciatura’, ‘Ingeniería’ or ‘Arquitectura’).
  • Specialisation: You hold a master’s degree, a postgraduate qualification or a specialist qualification in the field of development cooperation, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Digital skills: You hold a certificate in basic digital skills.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines, provided you meet the above requirements regarding your degree and experience in development cooperation.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. A higher education qualification obtained outside the EU must be recognised by means of a certificate of equivalence (official confirmation that it is recognised as equivalent in Spain).
  • Recent grants: You have not held a similar grant from the regional government in the last 3 years, nor any development-cooperation grant in the last 2 years.

How to apply

You should apply in writing to the regional registry office or online via the Castile and León e-Government portal. The application deadline for the 2026 round is 20 May. All applicants will be assessed using a points-based system. The 10 applicants with the highest scores will be invited to a compulsory face-to-face interview, during which their motivation, ability to work in a team and suitability will be assessed.

How realistic are your chances?

There are 2 places available for 2026, and the 10 highest-ranked applicants will proceed to the interview stage.
