About this scholarship

Travel bursaries of the University of La Laguna

You will receive up to 300 EUR for a single journey to attend an academic event or take part in a voluntary placement organised by the University of La Laguna (ULL) in Tenerife. The grant will reimburse your actual, documented travel and accommodation costs up to a maximum amount that depends on your destination: up to 70 EUR within the Canary Islands, up to 200 EUR to mainland Spain or the Balearic Islands, and up to 300 EUR EUR abroad. It covers two types of travel. Firstly, educational trips: courses, conferences, seminars, congresses, unpaid work placements, student meetings or an exchange for which you do not receive any other funding. Secondly, voluntary trips organised by the ULL, an NGO or an association.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of La Laguna (ULL) on a bachelor’s, master’s, first- or second-cycle degree programme, or a PhD programme.
  • Where you go: The event takes place off the coast of the island of Tenerife.
  • Link to your studies: The trip is related to your degree programme and is not part of your compulsory coursework.
  • Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Financial need: Your income is below the specified thresholds, for example up to 13,000 euros net per year from gainful employment. Your grades and your role in the event will also be assessed.
  • No double funding: You cannot combine this grant with any other grant for the same trip, and you may only receive one grant per call for applications.

How to apply

Applications are made online via the ULL Service Portal. There are several application rounds throughout the year, with deadlines in March, July and November. Please apply during the round that corresponds to your travel dates. Applications are assessed against one another, and you must achieve at least the minimum score to be awarded funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is restricted to students at a specific university and to travel outside Tenerife, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. The total budget is limited, and awards are made on the basis of income, academic results and your role in the event. A compelling, well-documented application letter that clearly sets out your financial needs stands a good chance of success. It is advisable to apply early in the application period, whilst funds are still available.
