What the USAL international scholarship covers

You’ll be completing a full Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Salamanca (USAL) in Spain for one academic year, with almost all your costs covered. At the main campus in Salamanca, instead of cash, you’ll receive a comprehensive package: no tuition fees, accommodation and full board in a student hall of residence (twin room with three meals a day), as well as health insurance from the day of your arrival, with no waiting periods or exclusions due to pre-existing conditions. If you are assigned to the campus in Ávila, Béjar or Zamora, you will instead receive 600 euros per month towards accommodation and meals, paid out over 10 months. The scholarship is administered by the USAL in conjunction with Banco Santander. Please note that the insurance does not cover medication or dental treatment, and you will be responsible for covering personal expenses such as laundry, transport and pocket money.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You live in one of the 21 Latin American countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
• Level: You would like to study for a bachelor’s degree (Grado) at the University of Salamanca.
• Field of study: Any subject area. USAL offers around 68 undergraduate degree programmes in the humanities, social sciences and law, natural sciences, health sciences, engineering and architecture.
• Spanish: If Spanish is not your first language, you will need proof of level B2 in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
• Other funding: You are not currently receiving any other USAL exchange scholarship.

How to apply

You apply for two places at the same time: via the Santander Open Academy platform and via the online form on the USAL International Relations Office website. You will usually need to submit a copy of your passport, your academic transcripts showing your grade point average, and a CV. A selection panel will then choose the successful candidates based on your application documents and your academic achievements.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship is generous, but restricted to a specific target group. Only students from 21 Latin American countries are eligible to apply, and there are around 42 places available per round. As a result, the pool of applicants is smaller than for a fully open scholarship, meaning that strong academic performance stands out particularly clearly. As tuition fees, accommodation and meals are covered in full, demand is high. You should therefore apply as soon as the application window opens.
